Coagulants

Afridana has many years of experience with the supply and application of coagulants for sludge and water treatment. Coagulants are added directly to the biological tanks, secondary clarifiers, excess sludge, industrial wastewater, or leachate water, to neutralise and bind the suspended particles. The particles clump together into larger flocs, thereby improving the sludge's settling and flocculation properties. Coagulation leads to optimised operation of secondary clarifiers and more efficient sludge dewatering, where the improved flocculation properties result in a higher dry solid content and lower polymer consumption.

With Afridana's selection of coagulants, we are a competent partner for both public and private operators. Our range of coagulants consists of both inorganic and organic products, which are based on iron and aluminium. A selection is presented below.

MicroflocTM

MicroflocTM is an iron-based product that allows charge neutralisation to also take place inside the sludge floc's internal structure and not exclusively on the sludge floc's surface. This is due to the charge strength in the metallic base of MicroflocTM is optimised so that the iron's electrical binding and neutralising capacity is multiplied many times over when compared with ordinary iron products.

Med MikroflocTM the settling rate is increased up to 5 times, which provides a higher hydraulic capacity in the wastewater treatment plant. Coagulation of the sludge floc contributes to a more effective biological conversion of nitrogen and organic matter. This conversion can even be achieved with lower oxygen consumption. Furthermore, Mikrofloc™ can contribute to the effective and rapid removal of floating sludge and foaming.

MicroflocTM is a liquid product that is delivered in drums, IBCs, or in bulk.

SpeedFloc2TM

SpeedFloc2TM is dosed directly into the aeration tank and causes the size of the air bubbles to be reduced. Gas exchange is thus increased in the aeration tank, as small air bubbles rise more slowly, thereby increasing the residence time in the water phase. The microorganisms thus have more oxygen available.

SpeedFloc2TM thus increasing the nitrification rate and organic degradation. This also improves the sludge's structure and floc strength, while the normal growth conditions for filamentous bacteria are reduced. All this results in an improvement of the sludge's settling capacity and concentration in the secondary clarifier. The improved sludge properties also benefit sludge dewatering, as the capacity is increased with a simultaneously higher dry solid content in the output. This can even be achieved with lower polymer consumption.

  • Capacity increase at wastewater treatment plants with high organic load
  • Up to 30% higher aeration capacity
  • Increase in operational reliability at the plant
  • Breaks down (or: emulsifies) fats and oils in wastewater

Afridana finds the right coagulant for your process

The right coagulant is found by performing laboratory and full-scale tests. In the laboratory, a coagulant with good precipitation properties is selected based on the specific sludge or water sample. The chosen coagulant is subsequently tested at full scale, possibly in combination with a relevant polymer for sludge dewatering. If you would like to test coagulants from Afridana at an existing facility, we would be happy to stop by for a non-binding chat and an initial laboratory test. Subsequent full-scale tests can document whether the selected coagulants can improve your process.
